AS/A2 Level Physical Education for OCR
This is an excellent opportunity to acquire and develop theoretical knowledge relating to all aspects of sport and Physical Education. The course also requires a high standard of analytical and practical skills in relation to sports performance.
Theoretical Course – Modules & Content
These modules account for 70% of the AS and A-Level courses and are assessed via a written examination in the summer exam period. The specific details of the course are being finalised by OCR and therefore may be subject to change. At the present time we expect to teach a combination of the modules listed above; non-bold text relates to AS content and bold text relates to A2 content.
Analysis and Evaluation of Performance
You will be assessed in your ability to observe, analyse and evaluate a sport performance. In this task your verbal response skills will be tested, alongside your ability to design a viable training program to improve the performer. This is worth 15% of AS/A2 course.
Practical Assessment - your sporting ability will be assessed as a player/performer or coach in one sport. There is a specific list of sports available for assessment. Check GCE Physical Education activity list on the DfE website for more details. A higher standard is expected to reach the very top grades. This is worth 15% of the AS/A2 course.

- Interpretation of diagrams, pictures, overheads.
- Practical lessons applying theory to performance situations.

“A-level PE at Hagley has allowed me to continue my close relationship with the PE department. Mr Behan, Mr Barratt and Mr Rich have supported me with my work throughout the year, and have given up their free time to provide revision and mentoring sessions for the group/individuals. As well as this, the PE department have continued to make Wednesday afternoons enjoyable by offering a range of sport, both competitive and recreational, and also allowing us to request any sport of our choice!”
Sam Anderson 2014
“So far, my time as a Hagley PE student has been great. I have found the A-level course really interesting and the teachers have been really supportive. I would definitely recommend PE at Hagley! I am actually on roll as a Haybridge student, but everyone at Hagley has been very welcoming and friendly J”
